So, since it is my birthday when this goes out, February 22, I decided to try to count down my Top 15 anime series. I know what my Top 10 are. So, it really comes down to what the other five are. That right there will be the tricky part. I have given it some thought prior to writing this what they would be. Personally I could only think of two more. Since I will be starting at number 1 and counting up by the end I hope to figure out what exactly is my top 15 anime series.
Now, before I begin I have a way of putting shows onto the list. It comes down to several factors. One being my personal enjoyment (most important), another being emotional attachment, and lastly, although there are probably more, the more I think about it when it is not airing and how obsessive I am of it. The series that I watch can be in any category and I am always open to suggestions for series to watch. The only thing that I do not classify as anime is henti, so do not recommend anything ever like that to me.
Number 1: Fairy Tail
Yes, Fairy Tail, although none of the shows in the top five should come as a surprise seeing that my first Top Five was based on my favorite series. In a way this one is like three Top Fives shoved into one. That is beside the point.
Fairy Tail was one series that really got me into anime. It was also the series that really made me watched sub anime, which is a majority of now. I do wish to watch more dub anime, but it is always far and few between. At the same time Fairy Tail really got me into manga once it took that year off for the manga to progress more.
I am not sure if I have to go more into really any of the top five since I brought them up so often. Without Fairy Tail I probably would not have seen the amount of anime that I have today as well as read the amount of manga that I have read today as well.
Number 2: A Certain Magical Index/ A Certain Scientific Railgun
I count both of these series at number two since they exist in the same universe and have the same characters, just a different main character and different stories that is all. If Soul Eater was on this list then Soul Eater Not would be at the same spot as well. Anyway, I cannot wait for the Heavy Object anime since it is by the same creator. I am a little disappointed that a third season for the anime was not announced, but in the meantime Yen Press is releasing the novels and I can buy those time to time to fill that void.
Although it might not have the same attachment as Fairy Tail for some things I still remember the first day of watching it. I managed to watch the first seven or so episodes in one sitting, only then to run late to the person I was supposed to go and tutor. Watching it somehow I knew I was going to enjoy it always. I watched the dub when that came out and enjoyed it as well. My only problem with the second season is that it makes the series feel a little incomplete and with my knowledge of what happens in the Light Novels next I could easily see why. SO, MAKE SEASON THREE ALREADY!!!
Number 3: Date A Live
Well, first I would like to say duh for this one. At the time this is going up currently my image is of Tohka as a cat, who looks so adorable, but that is besides the point. In the 30 Day anime challenge 2 days are dedicated to this series. I stated in my first review and several other cases the amount of emotional value that was put into this series for me. I have no idea why I was so obsessive with this series, but it is true. This series did a lot of things differently compared to a majority of the other Harem based series that I have seen before, namely less fan service with the exception of that one anime only episode that was nothing but fan services as well as the OVA, not counting the second OVA that focused on Kurumi which was really good although she is not my favorite character like she is for a lot of people. Anyway, blah blah blah, Date A Live, it is at number 3.
Number 4: The Monogatari Series
Although this series and I have a huge love hate relationship, it is easily my favorite. The reason for the love hate relationship is the fact that I find it hard to watch, I sort of blame my ADHD for that. At the same time it is more of the fact that recently the episodes come out in bulk. I like it when it is just weekly. Since this series was announced to have all the novels animated, I really hope they go back to a weekly series format or else it will be a huge struggle for me to watch. I stated back in December when I did my Top Five Favorite series, that I still have not finished the episodes that came out in August, I still have not finished that one nor started the one that came out on New Year’s. Even with the fact I struggle to watch this series I know I could go in and enjoy it like crazy and not be disappointed, which is why it is at number 4.
Number 5: Fate Series
I have been debating for a while now that maybe this series should be at number 4, but in all honesty it is good where it is. Really anything as of right now in my Top Five has their spot saved. Now, I am talking about the entirety of Fate series, so Fate Stay Night, Fate Zero, Fate Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks, and everything else that fits there. I would say everything in that universe, but that would include other Type Moon series, which are in different spots, on in which is on this list. Well, I mean there are several things that I enjoy about this series. For starters, Saber, which is a story for the 30 Day Anime Challenge Day 7. Anyway, the story, the characters, and of course my favorite meme of all time came from this series, “People Die if they are Killed.” Anyway since there are so many series in this franchise, I am finding it a little hard to talk about why I like it as a whole besides the fact that it is interesting and I enjoy it. So I will leave it at that.
Number 6: Kara no Kyokia: The Garden of Sinners
So, this is one of the few anime films that I have seen, not counting ones that were for anime series. Paradox Spiral, the fifth film, is easily my favorite. The battle and the fact it is split into three parts and gives a little more information each and every time I enjoy. I actually stopped watching the films at three before coming back six months later, and I was so glad I did. I would probably put the third film at my second favorite. The battles I really like as well as how the story at times can be a little self-contained between films. Since the films are already told out of order, it gives that sense even more that you could almost watch any of the films in any order and still enjoy it. Anyway, this is another series from Type Moon. A little Easter egg that I noticed was that the cigarettes that Toko Aozaki smokes are the same as Kiritsugu Emiya smokes. At the same time Toko Aozaki is related to the mentor in Tsukihimi. Anyway, that Easter Egg only makes me want to see a crossover more with all the series, and has nothing to do with the fact that it is on the list at number 6.
Number 7: Oh My Goddess
Not going to lie I am starting to see a trend with the series that appear on this list where I stop for a long time only to come back and finish the series. I stopped around episodes 18 only to come back almost eight months later to finish the series. It was like this for the previously mention Kara no Kyokia and Monogatari. This was also the second anime series that I ever watched, why I watched it, I do not know. However there is a lot I still wish for this series. Although it does not need a proper ending in my opinion for the anime, I would still like more episodes since the manga ended and gave a worthy ending to the 26 yearlong series. The series has that romance element that I really like. It has hardly any, if at all, fan service. It really focuses on the relationship and advancing that relationship, which is why I really liked it.
Number 8: Akame ga Kill
Although I did not like the fact that it felt rushed and gave an original ending. It does not change the fact that the twist at the end of episode 23 made me really enjoy this series. If not for that, this series probably would not be on this list. It is based off my favorite manga. Although what I like about this series comes down to two things For starters it is not afraid to kill off any character in anyway, to the point where it could be anyone in the next chapter, unlike Attack on Titian where the main characters are pretty much safe at some point. The next thing, which was a huge turn off for people was the comedy.
Yes, I do not like the comedy of the series, but I like where it is. It is more shown in the earlier half, before only showing every now and again and has little appearance later in the series. It is the same way in the manga where there might not be a joke for four or five chapters. I think this is really done well, with the fact that this is a serious series. The comedy adds to the fact that Tatsumi does not really know what is going on in the world and has a more childlike and innocent like view of it, thus the comedy, but once he gets used to the world and how it works it gets a more mature look at things, thus the comedy not appearing as much. If this was done on purpose, then I have to say it was well done, if not then I am just glad that it took more serious turn later in the series since it was well needed. A lot of my reason for liking this series comes from the fact I really like the manga, and it is a lot better than some of my favorite manga series that got an anime.
Number 9: Attack on Titian
Again, it really will feel like I will repeat myself here. Attack on Titian, I will say is over hyped, very over hyped. Personally I am unsure why it is on the list. I mean I like it, and I read the manga, right now I have the first 8 volumes. But a part of me does not want it on this list, while another part of me wants it to be. It is very conflicting. I like the action, and the story. Again I literally mentioned it, but at some point it becomes predictable who they will not kill off. Akame ga Kill will kill anyone Attack on Titian only kills background characters at one point and the ones that do get killed off too that might sort of be important, where not around long enough to make a huge impact. Anyway, this is not about bashing Attack on Titian truth is this was higher on the list until Akame ga Kill aired. I did not see the whole dub, but I watched some of it on Toonami, which was back when I was able to live on my own and be able to watch Toonami, and I have to say I did like the dub, it was well done in comparison to the sub. The cast was well done and was rather interesting. Anyway, I do like the manga, although if I had to put it in a place, it would probably be at number 8 for favorite manga.
Number 10: D-Frag!
This is another case where I like the manga and it got me into the anime. I think out of all the anime adaptions for manga into anime, D-Frag is defiantly up there for the best and closest to the source material. The jokes and everything was pulled off so well. For manga, it is ranked at number 7 for me, with how funny it is. The anime defiantly lived up to my expectations and went a little beyond making me enjoy it just a tad bit more than I do for the manga. If you are into comedy series, and I do not really like recommending series (especially ones that I am hugely fond for), but this and what is at number 12 I would have to recommend, although this one I would have to recommend more which will be more obvious once number 12 is revealed.
Alright, so this one and number 13 are two series that I have yet to complete at this time, but they both fit into what makes an anime my favorite. I read the manga and I just really enjoy the series. Personally I hope the Sinbad spin off gets its own anime series and not just OVA. But I read the manga to where the second season ends and I can tell I will like it. I might struggle a tad bit with the fact that there is a huge arc that makes up the second season, but it is interesting. I mentioned on several occasions that I like the concept of magic in the series and just the overall fantasy element.
Number 12: Seitokai Yakuindomo
For starters I would like to say this series is basically, for lack of a better term, s*x jokes the animation. Although I might, but sort of would want to recommend it, that is only if you can stand the jokes. I just think they are well done and it is always funny. The reason why I called it what I did, was mostly due to the fact that is all those jokes are, for twenty minutes one after the other after the other. This humor is defiantly not for everyone, but it manages to hold for the over 30 episodes that there are. Sometimes I wonder how I am able to stand it since I do not like anything like that, but it is not visual seeing the parts, rather than just jokes revolve around the part so I am fine. This series is just always funny and when an OVA comes out it is just a matter of time until it is subbed, even if it takes a month or two it is well worth it.
Number 13: Gintama
I started this series back in January, and it is easily one of my favorites now. I tend to avoid long running series. Sure, Fairy Tail I watched and caught up with but I was just starting to watch anime. Then there was Bleach which I dropped since the filler in the main story fights was getting annoying. I have not really tried to get into a long running series since then. Although I have wanted to get into One Piece and Naruto, but there is just too many episodes even if I skip the filler and I do not have the time to do that. Well, enough about that this series I find funny. Currently I am almost at episode ninety and I have not really seen a decline in humor. In fact I laugh more and more as time passes it seems. This series is well done when it comes to not trying too hard to make a joke and not repeating jokes, which is always good. It also does not really stick to one type of joke either, although parodies are plentiful. This series is still enjoyable.
Number 14: Birdy the Mighty Decode
I was really struggling to figure out what to do for number 15. Then this series came to me and I realized I needed to switch it with what I had for number 14. This series I really enjoyed. I watched the dub for it. Personally I really wished they made another season. At the same time it was well done in its own way. The animation, the story, the characters, there is so much to this series that I liked. Again this shares a similar tale with Monogatari, only it was when I was watching season 2 and I stopped for some time. This was due to me have a job in the summer that made me work for 40 hours, so the only anime I could watch was what was currently airing at the time. Granted I was able to watch Angel Beats in one sitting that summer, but this series I really enjoyed and wanted to go back to watching no matter what. I really like it in so many ways and wish I could put it higher on the list, the only there is no room.
Number 15: High School DXD
I cannot believe I put this one on the list, although I hate ecchi and although I do not like fan service. I still find it odd that my biggest guilty pleasure is this series. When season 3 was announced I was actually glad. The only downside to the fact is that each season only covers 2 novels, with their being over 19 out at this time, well there is no way they will fully adapt the series, unless they do something crazy because by my estimate they would need a little over 70 or more episodes to do it, for the ones that they have yet to adapt. Anyway, once I shut off my mind and watch this series I like it I guess. I like the plot and concepts, but the fan service can be a little over done all the time. At the same time despite me not liking fan service and ecchi, I still find this series enjoyable somehow.
So that is my list. I had a lot of fun doing this one. This is also my longest article to date as well. Anyway I hope you enjoyed this. Also other series I was thinking of putting here was Higurashi When They Cry (Which is defiantly at number 16 since it is not on here), Selector Infected WIXXOS (defiantly one surprising series that I did not expect a lot from at first would be at number 17), Parasyte (however it is not done yet and too soon to say), and Death Parade (Again too soon to say, but probably will not do to other reasons).
You do not have to explain your top 15, but what series would you consider putting into it? Also are any of the series in my top 15 are in yours?

That is why I like looking at other people’s top series. You can always find new series that you never even heard of or even go back on a series that you were uncertain on watching at one point.
