ReLife First Impressions and Other Series

So, before I begin and actually talk about ReLife, a part of me is both glad and finds it troubling the series is already completely out. Due to this I found it difficult to find time to watch the first episode. So much so that most of the people I know who saw it finished it already. Binge watching is weird at times for me. This series sort of encourages that. Either way let’s start.

The series in both anime and manga form Crunchyroll streams/simulpub.

 

Having read some of the manga, since I stopped around chapter 65 last year. After looking it up they may only be in the 130s. Either way I did enjoy it. Going in reading the manga I knew there would be anime however, back when I read it the manga was announced for January of this year.

But that backstory is not while people are here. But my liking of the manga reflects similar to the first episode. The first few chapters, which this episode covered, I did not fully like. I gained to like ReLife after all the characters were introduced and well everything after that takes place in episode one.

I would like to say that due to some other priorities I had watched half of the episode one day and the other half another. So this may have affected my judgement in some parts.

Despite my dislike for the first few chapters of the manga, I did enjoy it as the anime, just slightly more. It was nice to see the characters again, although my favorite character did not get a full introduction, it was nice to see her.

Now, unlike the other series that will be going on until September, this one I hope to end in the week.

Due to the nature of the manga I am a bit worried about what happens towards the end, since people are asking for another season. Either way I enjoyed this episode and hope to enjoy it more to binge watch within the next week.

 

Overall Enjoyment: 9/10

Sweetness and Lightning

No, this is not a buddy cop show from the 80s. It is about a dad taking care of his daughter and food. From the first episode I have to say this may be my favorite contender this season. Not sure why. It has that sad story, but also it has so much potential. There is something about it that makes it wonderful. The dad trying to recover after his wife’s passing to take care of his young daughter. I don’t even think I was going to watch it, but everyone seemed to enjoy it that saw it so far, so I watched it. Well, here is the score.

New Game!

Cute girls doing cute things while making games. Pretty much what I gathered from it. It was an enjoyable first episode. Not much on the making of a game. But it is a comedy, so what do you expect. I did not see Shirbako, but it seems similar in the only way that it is girls making a game instead of an anime. I assume more cute game making hijinks will happen, so I will stick to it.

May the best girl war end with a draw with that first episode.

Masou Gakuen HXH

It was hentai. I lasted a min, I think. Well this image was taken at 40 seconds in and I stopped a few seconds after. So. Yeah, not much of a first impression other than it being hentai.

Alright, time to be a little more serious. I did after calming down and freaking out decide to give it another shot. Since as far as I can recall, winter 2015 onward the harem series I been dropping more and more. In fact in the last year and a half the only ones I can think of that I saw and liked were Saekano and Monster Musume. As for ecchi series I have been dropping them more and more.

So, when giving this show another shot, one I knew I was going to skip the ecchi scenes, and two despite the harem series becoming super generic more so than they used to, I will give it three episodes. I mean the main girl impressed me, which is saying something to a harem series, since it has been awhile. Other than that it is the standard harem, dumb main protag, girls who fight, obvious main character getting called a pervert. Nothing new. If you were curious if the harem genre was changed, sadly it hasn’t.

Overall Enjoyment for Real: 4/10 (I liked it more than Rewrite)

• Try to avoid if everything this show is about not your thing

Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars

So, Yuri Mecha series. It was good. Certainly will give it a second episode since this one was more of a set up and get a mecha fight out-of-the-way than really focusing on the characters. There was not much focus on the main two characters. But it was made clear the two see themselves as sisters and what not. I think what really held this first ep back for the show was the fact they went and put more focus on the robot fight over the characters. Oh well, too soon to say anything until a second episode.

Overall Enjoyment: 6/10
