Well, hopefully by the title it is a bit obvious on what happened this episode. Cliffhangers are becoming a regular occurrence as much as the follow up episode where all action is resolved in a matter of just a few quick scenes. I am getting tired of this. But, oh well. For everything this show gets right, it gets something wrong. Anyway, let’s get started.
So, continuing, (like always), where last episode ended the group is under attack. They quickly flee only to be trapped. But after a quick morale boost to Io, they continue following the voice Lyria hears. The place is super old, and while the walk is long, Io talks a bit about her Master.
Anyway, they get to an open area. There the master they been looking for is pretty much evil. Well, he is seemingly being controlled to be evil.
He sends his giant robot primal beast at them. The battle ensues, and ultimately the gang are the victors. Lyria gave a power boost to all of them to accomplish this, which was pretty cool.
Anyway, Io snaps her master out of the control.
From there Io talks about her past and how she met the Archduke. Long story short the Archduke was creating the machine primal beast hybrid to protect the children, since they are the future and without them they are screwed.
In the end Io joins the group, which was not surprising in the slightest. Also, the group learns where to go next and they obtained another Sky map key.
Honestly I took a day to step back and give myself time to gather my thoughts on this episode. I think it is obvious and I made clear pretty much every episode review so far on my annoyance of the cliffhangers, so let’s focus on something else today. This is mostly since the entire plot of the show can be summed up with, go to one place, issue happens, problem solved, and onto the next for two episodes.
I did see minor animation issues as well, first picture is probably a good example with Katalina. Anyway, that was still minor, and very few issues appeared other than that.
The battle was certainly enjoyable, I thought it was interesting to see everyone getting a boost from Lyria using her powers. Granted Gran got his own special one, it would be cool to see if the others got their own special one, but oh well.
I really did like the second half of the episode, it not only gave some development to Io, who at this point probably has the most character development, but also the Archduke. It was nice to see them not have him be a straight up villain, but controlled. It also brings up more questions since someone gave him a power source, so there is another group out there possibly besides the Empire.
Either way his back story and reason was justifiable. He cares greatly for his country and would do anything for them. He puts the future first and not the present. He wanted to help create a future where the kids do not need to worry. Everything talking about him seemed to point in that direction. Although it looked like, thanks to the cliffhanger for once, he was to be seen as a villain he is truly a kind person and possibly even greater than what the people made him out to be. Seriously, he too, got more character development then most of the other characters.
I liked this episode more for that character development, too bad Gram does not get that much attention for being a main character, I guess you cannot win them all.
Overall Enjoyment: 80/100
