Well, this episode took a rather unexpected turn and certainly made me really want to see the next episode. Also, now that I finished this episode I am getting flashbacks towards the first season, around this time there was a two-part episode, after that it went into an arc for the rest of the season. This episode certainly gives the feeling season two might follow this trend, and I certainly will not mind this. Anyway, let’s get right into it.
The Plot:
They get a job offer by a super-rich CEO, so, of course Reigen is not going to pass off this job offer.
Of course, once they get to the job site, they were not the only psychic to be brought there. In fact, even one of the former members of Claw is there, apparently since being a main villain last season one of them wants to start a legit business. There are a few others, 63 if I remember correctly. One is an elderly man who everyone seems to see as a legendary psychic. There is a special reward involved, apparently the CEO guy believes his daughter is being possessed and wants her saved by any means necessary, with no amount of money being too little.
To solve who goes first, they do Rock Paper Scissors, Reigen of course wins, I believe there was a similar event in season one where it mentioned he never losses. When he talks to the daughter, well, it makes her dad really look bad.
When Reigen gets out of the area, he knows the daughter is lying. He might not be a psychic, but he could easily tell she was lying. Which of course provokes her into revealing she really is possessed and by an absurdly strong spirit.
Dimple has some backstory. Apparently, there was a strong psychic forty years ago, who was also an assassin. He tried to banish Dimple, but in fact he tried absorbing him, the assassin wanted to become a vengeful spirit. Come in today well he achieved that goal and is very strong.
A lot of the psychics try and fail, even the old guy gets possessed. Mob seems to be the only one who stands a chance. Of course, the rich guy possibly dies, now that the evil spirit knows what is going on. Mob creeps ever closer to exploding, and when he tries to help, he unintentionally makes it worse. Causing the spirit to nearly fuse with the body it is possessing.
Mob gets an idea, relating to a few episodes ago. An out-of-body experience so that he may posses the body and expel the evil spirit from the inside. Dimple would have to take over Mob’s body to protect it.
Well, Mob does get inside, only the fight does not last long. The evil spirit mentions how ESP is formed by emotions, strong emotions make the powers stronger. Well, he overpowers Mob and decides to mess with his memories, so Mob forgets he has ESP, thus ending the episode with Mob becoming normal.
Overall Thoughts:
The ending was certainly a strong point for this episode. It gave some background to ESP, Mob and how he sees himself, as well as set up a nice way to go into next episode. It is nice to see for once a villain that is a challenge for Mob. Last season we did not really see too much of that, other characters at time got the spotlight in fights, and in some Mob was holding back. This episode was different, he did not and he was struggling. Now, I have no idea if this is going to turn into a main villain, certainly I will not mind, and I do like how the ending was because of it, since it gave more of a lasting impression.
Another little thing I liked was the throwback to a few episodes ago with the out of body experience. It really brought things back and worked well for what this episode did in connecting it to a previous event.
Now, I think the major issue with this episode was the old guy as well as the man from Claw. Both did not add too much to this episode. The old guy, well, it was obvious he was going to be beaten badly despite everyone knowing how strong he was. As for the guy from Claw, I hope this was just the start, since it was funny to see one of them return and want to actually be a good guy or at least want to be one.
Overall this episode was alright, and I do feel like I can only give a complete judgement over this episode providing I see the second part to it. So, I will do just that and leave it at that. Next episode the score will be counted for both.
Overall Enjoyment: 90/100
Overall Score: TBD in Next Episode
