A lot has changed in how critical I am in reviews in the last year. My viewing of anime has changed. Now after revisiting a show I have seen several times, and labeled as one of my favorites. It is time to see how much of my view of it has changed in just one year. Continue reading “Let’s Start this Date: Date A Live S1 Review”
Now before I normally begin my starting ramble I will be taking the series as a whole as part of this. This includes the second season and the OVA. The reason for this is due to this being an original series as well as it is a whole story. I will split the plot in half to mention both seasons. Also in English the name is Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne. Anyway over the summer I was watching a lot of shows. I a part of me still wanted to watch a mecha show, since I just finished one as well as a series that had that ever presence of feeling like it is summer. This mecha, action, comedy seems to fit.
So over the summer and my adventures in tackling my “to-watch list” as well as shortly after writing the Kancolle review I had that urge to watch something else. Something that some people said was like Kancolle but with planes. This show was on my list for a while now and I finally decided to check it out. Before I knew it I am already making plans to do the review for the second season, the film, as well as the OVAs at some point. Any way enough about that. Like always for series reviews this will be spoiler free. So without further ado, time to get started on this action, sci-fi, military based anime.
For all intended purposes instead of using the English title for the rest of the review I will simply say DanMachi. It is also known as Familia Myth, but still DanMachi is easier and quicker to type. So despite the fact that this is coming out over a month after I said I was getting out, but I have taken a different approach to reviews, and that is plan out which ones I would like to do, then ask Twitter either the day before or of when I want to get it out. That way I get to do a series I would like to review, and you guys get to choose which one comes out. I did this with the Ben-To review. More than likely will do it for reviews to come. Anyway enough about all that, let’s get started in this Fantasy Comedy that seemingly was a popular choice from the Spring 2015 season.
There was problems with this series getting a physical release in English and word about it getting a dub was all the way last year over a year ago. That was the first time hearing about this series for me. Time and time again I ran into either a new season or a show I wanted to check out more. This show has been on my to watch list since then, and much like some of the older shows I will soon be reviewing, this one finally I was able to watch. The question is was waiting over a year and finally getting around to it worth it for this comedy action series? So, without further ado, let’s get started.
Before I begin this covers everything, season one and two, since I see it as the same series just split. This, if you do not already know is a sort of remake. It is a remake of the film version from 2010, and the 2006 version covered the Fate route, by the name this one covers the Unlimited Blade Works route. So although it shares a similar beginning, it is a different story with the same characters as the Fate route. I will do my best to judge it accordingly since there is too much Rin in the Rin route and not enough Saber in this fantasy series. As always with my series reviews they are relatively spoiler free.
So, I brought it up several times scattered throughout several posts that game adaptations do not go so well with me. Most of the time I end up dropping the show. There is one other case besides this one where I succeeded in watching it. The only thing that these two shows share that no other one did before is the fact they do not follow the games. KanColle gives an anime a story based on a game that has no story. But because of this, is this show good giving something that the game did not have? Also forgot to mention the was the third one that was voted on for me to review.
As to all my series reviews, I do my best to stay spoiler free.
Well, out of all the shows I posted in the poll, this was the second one voted by the community. The first one if anyone is curious was Saekano, which the review went out back a few months. So, unlike the previous series this one takes more of a pleasant Slice-of-Life Comedy where there is no need to plow on through but let it settle for a bit between episodes. So begins the review for Food Porn the Animation, sorry that is now Shoguki no Soma, Gourmet Girl Graffiti.
