Despite ending on another cliffhanger, this episode at least going off this episode, had it well-timed and needed. Too bad all the other pointless cliffhangers ruined any chance or hope this may mean anything. It is honestly one reason why I sort of drag my feet to write these reviews and watch this show, since by the end it really feels it may turn into a rant about cliffhangers seemingly for the fifth or sixth time this series. Anyway, at least for now I can’t complain about that, so let’s get started.

The Plot:

So, Lyria is walking around, in red water, which is totally not blood or hinting at that sort of thing. Anyway, everyone she cares for dies right beside someone. That someone, is another version of herself. Well, at least this haunting vision was just a dream, hopefully, to her.

Anyway, the crew arrive on the next island. Which turns out not only to have the largest body of water, but is also the largest island that is at least in this domain.

So, they land, Lyria hears a tiny voice, obviously, the beast of the domain. Then they see some suspicious goo before meeting an old buddy of Rackam, Eugen.

I did find it interesting the island they are on is open about being at war with the Empire. Until now they have either been on islands that are a part of, near conflict, or trying to avoid conflict with the Empire. It is odd that out of them all, this is the calmest island too. Also the Empire is behind that goo.

So, they talk with Eugen for a bit, only to both offer and have chores dumped on them. Well, Gran and Lyria are together and it was nice to see them getting character development. Also, the two walking around the town was nice to see Gran getting lost easily.

Anyway, that second half pretty much leads down a pretty nice peaceful episode, until Lyria is kidnapped at the end.

Overall Thoughts:

As much as I want to save this sort of thing for the final review, I am honestly right down the middle for this show. I like it, but I don’t like it. For everything it does right it feels like it does something wrong. Something just feels like it is missing for this show. I do not know what it is.

So, besides that, I was afraid something like this would happen, an actual good cliffhanger happening, only to be ruined by past ones. I been fooled too many times before and I do not want to fall for it again. This was well placed and all, but even being justified, too many episodes ended with cliffhangers only to have the issue resolved pretty quickly.

This episode got me thinking of the previous one. If this did not turn into a cliffhanger ending, I think it would have been better as a standalone episode. Sure, they could have had hints that Gran and Lyria were being watched. But ended this episode differently. Granted Lyria getting kidnapped would be a weird start to an episode. So, there is no real way to win here.

As for everything else this episode, I really enjoyed the Gran and Lyria alone time. It may seem like romance is starting to blossom between the two of them, but this also feels like the first time it is just the two of them since they met. Even then they were not alone. It was refreshing to see them get the spotlight with no issues or them on some sort of quest. It may not have been well timed, since it could have been done earlier in the show, but it was well placed.

I honestly do not know what could happen, but I do hope this new problem and them being on the island is at least for two more episodes. This show is 14 episodes long, so there is room for at least two sets of three episode arcs. It certainly would be a great way to build up and make it feel like it is not the same every two episodes. Plus, although the final two members appeared this episode, one has not said her name, and both have not said they would join. So, there still needs to be room for both of them.

Either way, fun episode, cliffhangers have lost their edge, and honestly I do hope this means something for the series as it is now in the final stretch.

Overall Enjoyment: 90/100
